Miss Abigail at the Arlington (Va.) Public Library, March 8, 2pm

I'll be speaking on Saturday, March 8, at 2:00 pm at the Arlington Public Library in Virginia, in the Central LIbrary Auditorium. See the flyer.

Here's the blurb:
Arlington Writes: Miss Abigail's Time Warp Advice on Dating and Matters of the Heart

Take a step back in time as Miss Abigail shares words of wisdom from her collection of about 1,000 classic advice books in a quest to solve modern-day dilemmas. Abigail Grotke, a Library of Congress digital projects coordinator, advice blogger and historian of the art of personal guidance, has collected books from 1822 to 1978 that cover the age-old topics of dating, love, living together, marriage, health, beauty, puberty, sex, etiquette, housekeeping, home economics, and home repairs. Grotke has spent years scouting used book stores and thrift shops to locate these treasures of self help. Learn about how she's built her collection and get time-tested advice to the lovelorn. Refreshments will be served. Books will be available for sale and signing. For more information, please call 703-228-6321 or email Deirdre Cross, or see this calendar listing.

If you're in the D.C. area, please stop by!

Greensboro College Book Signing April 14

This weekend I'll be returning to Greensboro College for an alumni weekend, where I'll be signing books and greeting folks on the campus where this whole Miss Abigail thing started. I attended GC from 1985 to 1987, before transferring to an art school in Massachusetts to eventually finish up my college years.

The first book in my collection, The Art of Dating, was purchased at a thrift store in Greensboro. Twenty plus years later, here I am. Hard to believe it.

I haven't been back to the college since I left in 1987 so it should be an adventure. And my mom's coming along to help me with the whole thing so it should be a fun road trip.

And then, on Sunday night, I travel to Paris! Woohoo!

Reminder: Love and Chocolate at the Library

If all goes well and the weather doesn't force the federal government to close all day, I'll be speaking tomorrow--about my collection, the Web site, the book, and love advice--at the Library of Congress. I'll also be signing books while attendees partake in some fabulous chocolate treats and browse a display of etiquette, romance, and household technology books from my collection and the Library's collection.

Here are the details:

Date: Wednesday, February 14, 2007
Time: 11:30-12:30
Place: Library of Congress, James Madison Building, 6th floor, Dining Room A (floor map)
And, the press release for more info.

We will go on with the program if the Library is open. Check the Library's homepage in the morning for closing information.

Hope to see you there!
